Fish Chop
Ingredients:
- 300 g boneless fish (such as cod, bhetki, or tilapia)
- 2 medium potatoes, boiled and mashed
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- ½ tsp garam masala powder
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp red chili powder (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro (coriander leaves), chopped
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
Prepare the Fish Filling:
- Poach the fish: Boil water in a pan, add a pinch of salt and turmeric, and cook the fish for 5-6 minutes until tender. Drain, remove any bones, and flake the fish with a fork.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for 1-2 minutes.
- Stir in cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for a minute.
- Add the flaked fish and mix well. Cook for 3-4 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Add chopped green chilies and cilantro. Stir well and let it cool.
Mix with Potatoes:
- In a large bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with the prepared fish mixture. Adjust seasoning if needed.
- Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into oval or round patties.
Coat the Chops:
- Dip each patty into the beaten egg, then roll in breadcrumbs to coat evenly. Repeat for a thicker coating if desired.
Fry the Chops:
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Fry the chops in batches until golden brown and crisp, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
Serve:
- Serve hot with ketchup, mustard, or a spicy chutney. Garnish with onion rings and lemon wedges.
Enjoy these crispy and flavorful fish chops as a snack or appetizer! 😊
