Fish Burger Patty

Ingredients:

  • 500 g (1 lb) boneless fish fillets (salmon, cod, tilapia, or any firm white fish)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp lemon zest
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley or cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish:

    • Finely chop the fish fillets by hand or pulse them in a food processor until coarsely ground (avoid overprocessing to maintain some texture).
  2. Mix the Ingredients:

    • In a large bowl, combine the chopped fish, onion, garlic, lemon zest, parsley or cilantro, Dijon mustard, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Mix well.
    • Add the egg and breadcrumbs to bind the mixture. Stir until just combined.
  3. Shape the Patties:

    • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into burger patties (about ¾-inch thick). Place them on a plate and refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to firm up.
  4. Cook the Patties:

    • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the fish patties and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and fully cooked (internal temperature of 145°F/63°C).
  5. Assemble the Burger:

    • Toast burger buns and spread your favorite sauce (tartar sauce, mayo, or a zesty aioli) on the bottom bun.
    • Place the cooked fish patty on the bun and add lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and any other desired toppings.
    • Cover with the top bun and serve immediately.
