Chicken Momo

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup water (adjust as needed)

For the Filling:

  • 300 grams minced chicken
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons spring onion greens, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

For Steaming:

  • A steamer or idli pot
  • Banana leaf or parchment paper (optional, for lining)

For Serving:

  • Spicy tomato chutney (see below for recipe idea)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
  2. Gradually add water while kneading until you get a smooth, soft dough.
  3. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.

2. Prepare the Filling:

  1. In a large bowl, mix minced chicken, onion, garlic, ginger, green chili, spring onions, and soy sauce.
  2. Add black pepper, cumin powder, salt, and vegetable oil. Mix well to combine all the flavors.

3. Shape the Momos:

  1. Divide the dough into small portions and roll each piece into thin, round discs (about 3 inches in diameter).
  2. Place a spoonful of the chicken filling in the center of each disc.
  3. Fold the edges together, pleating as you go, to form a pouch or crescent shape.

4. Steam the Momos:

  1. Grease your steamer tray or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Arrange the momos in the tray, leaving some space between them to avoid sticking.
  3. Steam for about 10–12 minutes, or until the dough is translucent and the chicken is cooked through.

5. Serve:
Serve the momos hot with spicy tomato chutney or your favorite dipping sauce.
